William Frederick Billings

Passed away suddenly on May 29, 2025 at the age of 91. He leaves behind his devoted

wife, Colleen. Beloved father of Steven (Cindy) and Tracey (Dave Hanna). Proud

grandfather of Andrea (Kyle), Kirk (Kathleen), Kelli (Dylan), Janelle (Justin), and Quinn.

Cherished great-grandfather of Dallas, Blakely, Violet, Adalyn, Archie and Hallie. Loving

brother-in-law to Sharon and Allegro Marafon, Douglas and Mary Lappin, Patricia and

Gord Bereza. Will be missed by nephew Adam (Katrina) and their children Nicolas and

Penelope. Born in Birmingham, England, Fred moved to Canada in 1957 to pursue his

journalism career, which expanded five newspapers including The Peterborough

Examiner and The Hamilton Spectator. Later, Fred joined the Royal Bank of Canada team

in Montreal and then moved to the head office in Toronto as Senior Advisor and VP of

Public Relations. Fred had many passions including travel, gardening, golf, and was a

voracious reader. Fred’s legacy shall live on through every memory, laugh and story he

shared with friends and family. A private family service has already taken place; there

will be a celebration of life to follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada would be greatly

appreciated by the family.
