It's with sadness that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Languay. He lived a full and enjoyable life that started in Montreal where he grew up with his brothers Joe and Peter, and his sisters Mary (McHenry) and Ann (Robinson).
An ambitious person, he started his own company, Long Distance Packing, in the early 1970s and moved to Toronto. There he worked hard and eventually had a warehouse where he sold cartons to moving companies. He also dabbled in many other business ventures, including All Seasons Trophy and Gifts, which was managed by his wife Lee.
In the early days of moving to Toronto, many trips were made back to Montreal to visit family and friends. It was on those road trips that games were invented to help pass the time. Cows were counted (doubled if a church was passed, lost if a cemetery), license plates were called out, and skip counting was taught playing "Buzz".
New ways were always found to hide the radar detector.
Bill made lifetime friendships where he lived and with people he met on vacations. He was fun and creative. He loved to entertain and with his wife, hosted many parties and family get-togethers. He was quick to help with whatever anyone needed, and was always very welcoming. You could expect a hug and kiss when you went to his house.
Bill and Lee retired early and enjoyed life as snowbirds, golfing in Florida for many years. Eventually, health issues with cancer started to slow him down, just a little. He battled and won many times, until he didn't.
We are thankful for the ICU team at the Juravinski Hospital and the team at St. Peter's Palliative Care Unit in Hamilton.
William E. Languay is survived by his wife Leone (Layman), his daughters Catherine (David) Stevenson and Judy Languay, his grandchildren Samantha and Mitchell Stevenson, Michael and Marlaina Assaf, his sister Ann, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He lived and loved well. Rest in peace.
