Valerie Echlin

The family is heartbroken to announce the sudden passing of Valerie (Val), on April 7, 2024, in her 75th year. She is survived by her loving husband Brian Viger; sisters, JoJo (Willie) and Wendy (Scott); brothers, Gary and Brian; sister-in-law, Joanne (Donny) and in laws, Gil (Vivien), Marlene (Bill), Diane (Rick), Janice, and Bruce (Patti). Val was predeceased by her precious son, Mikey; her brother, Donny; her sister, Pat; and her parents, Don and Eileen. Val was also a proud aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Val's motto was "Be Prepared". When packing for a vacation or even just an outing, she thought of everything. No hotel room would be complete without her special "Grand Bend" travel toaster. Picking up chili from the local Tim Horton's always involved her very own insulated bag. She could put Door Dash to shame. Val was the keeper of all important dates. Everyone refers to Val's calendar for birthdays, anniversaries, and any other memorable events. She also had a "thing" about Best Before Dates. Grocery shopping meant digging to the very back of every shelf to purchase only products with dates well beyond any future you would imagine. Val took care of family; some who became "short term tenants" when the situation called for it. She also dedicated over 12 years to visiting her sister Pat in hospital, becoming her voice and strongest advocate. Val was enjoying her retirement with Brian. She carefully researched and selected the best series and shows to watch, always making sure Brian's sweet tooth would be satisfied by the many special treats she would pick up during her daily walks to the grocery store. She was a huge fan of Jeopardy. If the category for the Final Jeopardy question was "Most Prepared, Most Loving, Most Missed", the answer would be "Who is Valerie Echlin?"

Cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we encourage everyone to honour Val's memory by spending time with loved ones while you have them, pen the time into your calendar, and show up with a sweet treat that doesn't expire until at least July!
