Shuker, Tammy (nee Gray)
It is with deep sadness that we announce after a complex and brave battle, Tammy Alice Marie Shuker passed away suddenly but gently on October 22, 2025 at the age of 65. Lovingly remembered by her husband, the love of her life, Ric Shuker. Together they built a life that she had always dreamed of full of laughter, love and respect. Deeply missed by her children, Vicki(Jesse) and Andrew (Jessica) along with her grandsons, Jake, Nathan, Ben, Ryker and Axton. Also sorrowfully remembered by her step-children Morgan (Brad), Michael (Lindsay) and Mackenzie (Brandon) along with their children, Cohen, Lawson, Bodhi and Indigo. She is survived by her mother Alice, her sisters Theresa (Mike) and Debbie (Russ), her brothers Bobby (Pam), Tim and brother-in-law Gary, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is remembered by her Shuker in-laws, who welcomed her into their fold with open arms, Judy (Jon), Barb (Andy), Dave (Nanci), Jim (Donna) along with their families. She remained closely connected to the family from her first marriage and will be deeply missed by Jim and Jean, Karen, Claire (David) and their families. She is predeceased by her father Robert and dear sister Kathleen.
Tammy earned the nickname “bulldog” amongst her family and friends for good reason. She was bold, stubborn and tenacious, never one to back down. She filled a room with sunshine bringing humour and her infectious laughter wherever she went. She loved her people fiercely, with her whole being. She was tiny in stature, but her heart was huge. Though she presented this tough, strong persona to the world, those who knew her the best also saw the soft side, the gentleness and generosity of a woman who had sometimes been hurt but was still brave enough to offer her heart with no reservation, time and again. She felt deeply, her emotions ran close to the surface, and tears of joy were often shared in moments of love, laughter, and pride for her family. She was a treasure and the world is a lesser place for her loss. We were all blessed for having known her. Our hearts are broken.
We would like to give thanks to the caring and courageous doctors and nurses at the Juravinski Cancer Centre, the PKD team at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and the Neuro-Trauma team at the Hamilton General Hospital who worked so hard to care for and support Our Tammy while she fought her battle on multiple fronts. I would like to give special thanks to the nurses, Michelle and Ronnie, who leant us strength and gentle compassion while we said our final goodbyes. I would also thank Bonnie, Tammy’s dear friend, who lovingly filled in anywhere she was needed to help us all through this terrible loss.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Affordable Burial and Cremation. A Celebration of Life will be held in Tammy’s honour on April 18th, 2026 at the Stoney Creek Legion (branch 133) from 1:30 - 4:30pm in the Club Room, where Tammy loved to meet her friends to play cards. If attending the Celebration, we invite you to bring your pop tabs for wheelchairs as we will be collecting as many as we can in her honour. Tammy was passionate about this initiative. In lieu of flowers, donations to the PKD Society of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
