Susan Elizabeth Burns passed away in the early morning on Monday, December 8, 2025 at the age of 63 from MSA-C. She is pre-deceased by her mother Betty Joan Near and her brother David Edward Gregory Near who passed away in 2017. Loving wife to Robert Burns, mother to Alanna (Geoff, Noah) and Stephanie (Adam). Daughter of Gordon, sister to Heather (Jennifer, Michael and Geoffrey).

Susan grew up in Durham Region with her parents Gordon and Betty, her sister Heather and her brother David. She attended post-secondary school at the Michener Institute (Toronto Institute of Medical Technology) in Toronto, graduated in 1982, with a diploma in Nuclear Medicine Technology. Susan began her work in the field in 1982 at the Henderson Hospital, where she met her future husband Robert, playing in a baseball league with her co-workers.

Susan and Robert were married in Hamilton, Ontario on October 19, 1985 and celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past October.

Susan pursued many interests and hobbies throughout her life including highland dancing, photography, gardening, baking, cooking, quilting, knitting and more. She was known for her hospitality; often volunteering in the background for various organizations and groups including MOPS and Pancake Sundays at St.John’s, debt counselling clients for Christians Against Poverty, volunteering for Stats Can to complete Census, and helping at Hughson Street Baptist Church (now known as James North) in various capacities.

Susan welcomed everyone with open arms, friends from church, schoolmates of her children, co-workers and family. She showed us how Jesus wanted us to live, to honour others and put them first. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
