Sonja Coulter (nee Skwarchuk) June 27, 1928-October 6, 2023-It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sonja, age 95.Sonja was the youngest, and last surviving of 7 children, born on a farm near Drobot Saskatchewan to Ukrainian immigrants. She inherited their strong work ethic. At age 20, she moved to Hamilton Ontario for work, and was employed her entire life as a bookkeeper. She married her husband Layton in 1953. Their only child Janice arrived in 1955.They primarily lived in Hamilton, spending any leisure time at the cottage Layton built on Lake Erie. They also spent a period of time in the 1970s in Huntsville ON, where they owned the Satellite restaurant, famous for their hamburgers and donuts. Four beautiful and much loved grandchildren came into their lives, and they moved to Leduc Alberta in the 1980s to be closer to them. Their presence and help was much appreciated, and a deep and everlasting bond was established with all of their grandchildren. They returned to live at Lake Erie when the entire family moved back to Ontario in the early 1990s. In retirement, winters were spent in Mesa Arizona in their motorhome, and then park trailer, while summers were back at Lake Erie. Her life was again blessed with the arrival of four great-grandchildren during the last 10 years of her life whom she absolutely adored, and they her. Her eyes would light up whenever she saw them. She is survived by husband Layton Coulter, daughter Janice Dulyk, grandchildren Jamie Dulyk, Bob Dulyk, Karlee Thornton (Tony) and Larissa Dulyk; great-grandchildren Scarlett, Charles and Ellie Thornton, and Yaromir Dulyk. She also leaves to mourn her loss, sister-in-law Jean Skwarchuk of Esterhazy Saskatchewan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their offspring. She will be sorely missed. In keeping with Sonja’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no service held.
