Simon Adhemar Caero passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at St. Peter’s residence in Hamilton, Ontario, on Saturday, October 18, 2025, from natural causes.
Simon was lovingly referred to as Audie by his friends and family. He was born and raised in Bolivia, and took frequent trips back to his home country to visit friends and family, including cousins with whom he was particularly close. Audie moved to America as a young adult before settling in Canada and raising his two sons, Walter and Bryan.
Audie’s hobbies included playing tennis, chess, and listening to classical music. Audie was a very active part of all four of his grandchildren’s lives: Ella, Senya, Björn, and Sophia. He was known for bringing gifts for all four children on one person’s birthday and making it a celebration for everyone.
He would send care packages for everyone, even after his older grandchildren had moved away for college, often calling them his “babies”.
He always encouraged his grandchildren to keep up with their art and insisted that they could do anything they wanted to put their mind to.
Audie was happily married to his wife, Lana Greig, who was a loyal and devoted companion to him. She remained by Audie’s side through life’s hard times and happy times. On many occasions when grandchildren visited, she loved to recount the story of how they met.
Audie would call his family frequently and always end the call with the saying, “Bye for now, ciao.”
The celebration of life will be held on November 1st from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm at 205 Nebo Rd, Hamilton, ON L8W 2E1.
