Siegfried Hirschegger died on Monday, April 20, 2026 in Hamilton, Ontario with his children at his side. He said 97 years was long enough, being in declining health and having outlived our mom, two of our sisters, and a grandson. His last few days were a living wake. Family and friends dropped by or phoned to laugh at his dad jokes, and make sure he knew how much they loved him. Born in Zeltweg, Austria, he married the love of his life Gertrude Sandner after the war. They started a family and came to Canada eventually settling outside Dundas in a little bungalow beside a creek. He worked for General Electric for many years, fixing refrigerators and dreaming of retirement. Left behind with heavy hearts but grateful for all he meant to us are children, Ilse (Mike) Joe (Wendy), Rick (Diana); grandchildren, Stacey, Julie (Scott) Jennifer , Mike (Tara), Lucas, Zachary, Rebecca and Eric.; great-grandchildren, Megan (Brian), Calvin, Sam, Sophia, Katie and Kaiden; great-great-grandchildren, Josie and Thomas; Niece Debbie (Joe) and her family; and dad's sister, Gudrun (Berndt) and family in Austria. Predeceased by wife, Gertrude of 71 years, daughters, Christa (John) and Siegrid (John), grandson, Jason, and sister, Lore and her husband Eric. We plan to gather in the coming months in Killarney where Mom and Dad spent many happy times at their trailer, out on their boat teasing the fish.
