It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of
Sharon Elizabeth Paquette, of Hamilton Ontario, on September 11, 2023, at
the age of 67 years. She leaves behind her adoring husband of 35 years,
Greg Paul and her siblings: Ron (Diane Wheeler), Joe (Joan Higgins), Judy
(Wayne Hinkson), Paul (Ann Penny), Risë (late Terry Murdie), and Donna
(John Struger). She was predeceased by her brother, Wayne (Emilia
Palomares) and her parents, Muriel (Macdonald) and Angus Paquette.
Also mourning are in-laws Aurelia Paul, Mark Paul and Liz (Fodor), and dozens of nieces
and nephews
Born in Montreal (NDG), Sharon was an inspiration throughout her life
most notably over the last seven years when Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
confined her to a long-term-care home. For 30+ years, Sharon faced
decreasing independence with courage, determination and humour. She
maintained her positive, easy-going personality, endearing herself to all
who worked with her. Sharon's ever-ready smile brightened everyone's day.
With the untiring support and advocacy (and excellent wardrobe skills) of
her sister Donna, Sharon experienced a relatively full life.
Sharon studied and worked across the country. Devoted to any project
she took on, she represented New Brunswick in the 1977 Canada Summer Games,
led a group of Katimavik participants in Alberta, earned a second
language certificate from Laval University (Quebec), a BPysEd(University of
New Brunswick), a MSc (University of Saskatchewan), and a teaching degree
(BEd, Brock University). Physical fitness was a passion for Sharon and she
had enjoyed playing hockey (Dawson College), scuba diving, skiing,
jogging, springboard diving and horseback riding (TEAD Therapeutic Riding
Centre).
For those who came to know her, Sharon’s key source of pleasure was
basking in the sun in the courtyard, which she enjoyed with a smile, until
her last day on earth.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the Chartwell
Willowgrove long term care home, especially the Valley City neighbourhood,
for their compassion. They came to love Sharon as we all did.
