Sandra (Sandie) Marwynne Tharme

August 13, 1939 - January 29, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Sandie Tharme (nee Speight) on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

Sandie is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Freddie, her sons Mark (Judy), Stephen (Christine), her cherished grandchildren Steven, David (Stefanie), Olivia and Owen, great-grandchild Katia, and her brother Mike Speight (Ann) in England. She will also be deeply missed by her best friend of 25 years, Stella Sexton.

Sandie was born August 13, 1939, in Bury, England and met the love of her life while on holiday in Wales. They married in 1959 and emigrated to Hamilton in 1965, where Freddie completed his engineering degree at McMaster University, obtaining his P.Eng. Sandie and Fred were Cub and Scout leaders at the 13th Hamilton at Barton Stone United at Stone Church Road and Upper James. They both loved everything about Canada, travelling the country from coast to coast numerous times.

After the family moved to Ancaster in 1970, Sandie worked part-time at Glaser’s Pharmacy and was a hostess at the historic Hillcrest Restaurant and a salesperson at Foster’s Ladies Wear, a high-fashion women's clothing store in downtown Hamilton. She later supported Fred’s engineering company, Tharme Technical Services.

They became longtime residents of Burlington, living at LaSalle Towers on the Bay, a lovely home near the Royal Botanical Gardens, and finally in downtown Burlington, where they discovered their favourite breakfast community at the Skyway Diner. She will be missed by the wonderful staff and patrons.

Nainy, as we lovingly called her, was an accomplished pianist and taught piano in the UK. A great lover of music, especially jazz, she was thrilled to attend concerts and meet legendary musicians, including her personal favourite, Ella Fitzgerald.

Her devoted family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington and the wonderful caregivers at the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice in Hamilton.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial arrangements will be announced at a later date.

We encourage donations made in Sandie’s memory to the Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice.
