Ruth Elizabeth Chappell

CHAPPELL, Ruth Elizabeth (Patriquin) – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Elizabeth Chappell on Tuesday, 10th September at the Hamilton General Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, at age of 97. Born 29 th May 1927 in New Glasgow, Pictou County, Nova Scotia, Ruth lived for most of her adult life in Burlington and then Hamilton, Ontario. She spent the summer at home in St. Elizabeth Village in Hamilton near her beloved garden, just as she wished. Predeceased by her parents Thelma (McLeod) and Everett Patriquin, and siblings Esther Hillier, Elden, Everett (Bud), Doris Tinker, Kathleen Muise and Winston. She will be missed by all of her nieces and nephews, including in Ontario: Randy, Jeff and Steve (deceased) Muise and sisters Heather (Barker) and Kim (Muise-Khan); Shelly Rowe; Roderick and John Hillier and sister Diana; and in Nova Scotia, Grant and David Patriquin and sisters Kathy (Fewkes) and Sheryl (Adshade); and Mark Patriquin and sister Maria (Pfinder); as well as her many great nephews and nieces.

Ruth was an independent and determined lady, with a career in title searching in the Burlington/Hamilton area for many years. Ballroom dancing remained a passion throughout her life and many Saturday evenings were spent twirling the floor at local dances. Music brought her great joy. She loved to entertain others playing the piano and also got great pleasure listening to other musicians at the local accordion club. Her home displayed many of her watercolour paintings.
