Roger Boehmfeld

January 27, 1944 — August 20, 2023

After a lengthy battle with kidney illness and Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) a neurological disorder, Rodger passed away at St Joseph’s Hospital on August 20, 2023 with his wife, Joanne, at his side.


He was born in Germany on January 27, 1944 and sailed across the Atlantic in 1952 along with his mother Frieda, older brother Fred and German Shepherd Dunca, arriving in Hamilton to meet his father Heinz who came earlier. Missing him is his wife Joanne (nee BRISKIE), his daughter Sharlene Y. Allaer and her partner Scott Greenholm, brother Fred and his wife Barbara Boehmfeld.


In his youth he had many jobs, but after high school he joined Stelco as an apprentice electrician. Early on through Mohawk College he obtained his Certificate of Qualification from Skilled Trades Ontario in Construction and Maintenance and Industrial. He was an electrical teacher at night school. He retired in December 2006. He was well liked and respected by workmates. He was always available for advice and help with problem solving. He was a member of Hamilton Germania Club gymnastics team, where he also taught the little children. He enjoyed skiing, bowling, cruises, vacationing in Florida, and spending time at his cottage on Lake Erie.


Sincere gratitude to Juravinski Hospital G.I and also St. Joseph’s Hospital Nephrology and ICU for their care and support during this difficult time. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place and an intimate celebration will be held by his family.
