Hamilton, ON - SAUNDERS, Robert "Bob" Edward

October 8, 1946 - May 31, 2026

Passing peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital with family by his side Bob joins his wife of 53 years, Dorothy (nee Bulbeck) in the great beyond. Also welcoming his arrival are his parents Harold and Gladys, and siblings Barbara Temple (Ron) Frederick (Linda happily still with us), Susan Marriage (John), and Richard (Lynda). He was the last of a proud North End family.

Bob says farewell to children Robert "Bobby", Jeffrey (Christine) and Dawn-Marie Yoshida (John), grandchildren Mathew, Nicholas, Benjamin, Emily, Paige and Emma. Bob (UB) was also a dear uncle / kidnapper to his niece Cindy Goodwin (Shayne) and Dwayne Boal, a much loved "Grandpa" to Cindy's children Corson and Camille.

Bob loved growing up in the North End, being close to the harbour where he enjoyed watching the ships sailing to the fro, a passion that he enjoyed right to the end. He joined Sea Cadets where he honed his skills playing horns in the band which continued on with membership in the RHLI Bugle Band and then later in drum corps most notably the Hamilton Fire Fighters Drum Corps. He passed on his love of music and camaraderie to both Bobby and Dawn-Marie who marched in his footsteps.

Bob and family enjoyed camping with friends and family all over southern Ontario often combining camping with local parades. His children, nieces and nephews real and adopted, have fond memories of running amuck in such places as Byng Park along the Grand River.

Due to his love of genealogy, he found the Sanders family in Louisiana and that led to various trips down south to spend time with his long lost cousins.

Bob loved life and rarely had an unkind word for anyone. He was a devoted husband, a proud dad, and a great friend to many. He enjoyed a good party spicing things up with a bit of rum and Pepsi. Bob's last day was spent in just such a setting, celebrating the life of a family member amongst people whose company he enjoyed. His last day was a good one.

The family would like to thank the staff at Dundurn Place Care Centre who took such great care of him after his tumble and the staff at the General Hospital who provided such comfort to us in his final moments. We are forever grateful.

As per Bob's wishes, there will be a celebration of life at a later date where all will be welcome to attend and share a story or two. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Good Shepherd in his honour.
