It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Rita Ann Broadfoot (Moffitt) on August 22, 2023.
She has joined her husband, Robert Broadfoot, and her Parents Robert & Joan Moffitt. She leaves
behind her 3 sisters (Susan, Norma, Nancy), 4 Children (Melanie, Mary, Robert, David) and 5
Grandchildren (Briar, Rhiannon, Holly, Sawyer and Trey).
Rita was born in England shortly after WWII, moving to New Brunswick to start her life in Canada at the
age of 2. She moved to Hamilton with her parents, where she attended school (at least claimed to, one
is now a parking lot, the other an office building). She spent many summers back on the farm with her
grandmother and uncle. Once graduating from Teachers College, she moved to Northern Ontario to
teach.
She met her husband at a party and as Dad said, that was it for him. After a short time in Meaford, it was
back to Pickle Lake where she raised her 4 children, ran the Girl Guides and went back to supply teaching
when the children were old enough. After a short Grocery cashier career, she babysat out of her home.
She moved back to Hamilton, to be closer to family, became a member of the Chedoke Presbyterian
church and enjoyed many activities there.
She will always be remembered for her ability to knit dishcloths in the dark, make people smile, her
wicked aim with a shoe, accuracy with a wooden spoon, but not for her cooking skills.
The family would like to thank St Joseph Satellite facility and St Peters Hospital for the excellent care
provided in her last months.
Cremation has taken place, with internments to follow in New Brunswick and Pickle Lake
