Richard Germain Leonard
Brunelle
Nov 26, 1967 — Sep 20, 2026
In Loving Memory of Richard Germain Leonard Brunelle
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Germain Leonard Brunelle, who left us peacefully on September 20, 2026, at the age of 58.
Born on November 26, 1967, in Hamilton, Ontario, Richard was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, brother, uncle, and loyal friend. His kind heart, unwavering loyalty, and quick sense of humor touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Richard was the beloved husband of Andrea, and a proud and dedicated father to Justine, Joshua, and Andrew—his greatest joy and the center of his world. He was the cherished son of Barbara Meyer and Germain Brunelle and his wife, Donna.
Richard was predeceased by his brother, Todd Brunelle, whose memory he carried with him always. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother Jonathan and his wife Janine, and by his nephews Todd and Jack. He was also a wonderful brother‑in‑law to Joanne and Jeff Hickman, and Marina and Shawn Scobie. Richard’s memory will be treasured by his many nieces, nephews, great‑nieces, great‑nephews, extended family, and countless friends who felt like family.
Among those friends was Rob Greville, Richard’s lifelong companion, since childhood. What began as two boys growing up as neighbours quickly grew into a bond that became family. Through every stage of life—school days, adventures, challenges, and celebrations—Richard and Rob shared a friendship built on loyalty, laughter, and an unshakeable connection that stood the test of time.
Richard found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved the quiet peace of fishing, the friendly competition of a round of golf, and the lifelong thrill of cheering on his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs. Whether he was spending time outdoors, sharing laughs around the table, or offering a helping hand without being asked, Richard’s warmth, generosity, and steady presence left lasting memories.
Those who knew Richard will remember his ability to make others feel seen, supported, and valued. He had a gift for turning ordinary moments into cherished ones, and his laughter—full, contagious, and unmistakably his—will echo in the hearts of those he loved.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton for their compassionate care, support, and kindness shown to Richard and his loved ones throughout his illness.
A Funeral Mass will be held on October 2nd, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Annunciation of Our Lord Parish, 280 Limeridge Rd W, Hamilton. A reception will follow in the parish hall, where family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate Richard’s life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton in Richard’s memory.
Though Richard is no longer with us, his love, his laughter, and the countless memories he created will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed, and forever dear.”
