Penelope “Penny” Wicks-Brown (nee Didwell), age 77, of Ancaster, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on July 29, 2026 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s dementia. She is finally at peace.

On this special day~her husband Robert Brown’s heavenly birthday~she was happily reunited with him. They are together once again.

Penny was also predeceased by her parents, Neville and Barbara Didwell (nee Goose), her dear sister Angela “Angie”Spencer, and her brother-in-law, Keith Spencer. She leaves behind a legacy of adventure, dedication, and deep love for her family.

Born in Wisbech, England, Penny developed an early independence when she was sent to Hawnes Boarding School in Bedfordshire at just ten years old. Her sharp mind and work ethic led her to a position in the Pathology Department at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge. It was this vital medical experience that paved the way for her next great adventure: emigrating to Canada in 1970.

Upon arriving in Canada, she began working at McMaster University. She quickly fell in love with her new country, camping in most Canadian provinces before purchasing her very first home in Ancaster in 1972. Penny later transitioned into a successful career in real estate, working for Coldwell Banker, where her natural warmth and charisma shone.

She lived life to the absolute fullest. An avid traveler and explorer, she journeyed around the globe, sailed the waters of Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay, and was always eager to try adventurous cuisine. She was also a passionate athlete and a familiar face on the courts, playing at the Ancaster Tennis Club, the Burlington Aldershot Tennis Club, and with the Maple Leaf Tennis Team in Punta Gorda, Florida, where she happily spent her winter months as a snowbird.

Penny was a vibrant soul who lit up every room she entered with her bubbly personality. She loved a good time. Whether she was enjoying music or dancing, her energy was infectious. Above all else, she adored her family. She was a devoted and loving mother to Jacob Wicks, Bethany Roberge (Adam), and stepson Paul Brown. She was the cherished and proud grandmother “Nanny” of Madison, Kylie, Nolan, and Colton Roberge, who were the absolute joy of her life.She was endlessly proud of every single one of her grandchildren. They will cherish her warmth, laughter and irreplaceable spirit. Penny is survived and dearly missed by her brother Phillip Didwell, and her sister-in-law, Jean Didwell and her many loving nieces and nephews.

She will be deeply missed by her family, her many friends across Canada and Florida, and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
