Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear brother Paul. Lovingly surrounded by his sisters Judy and Susan on July 13, 2026 at the age of 78, Paul left this world on his own terms to be reunited with our parents Sam (January 2014) and Jean (February 2018).

Paul lived his entire life in Hamilton, joining the Hamilton Police Force at the age of 19 as a cadet, and becoming a constable at the age of 21 after attending Ontario Police College. Paul enjoyed being a police officer immensely. Despite this, Paul’s love of music and interest in audio led him to choose a different career path at the age of 27. Though his tenure as a police officer was relatively brief, Paul was proud of his service to the Hamilton Police and made many lifelong friends during his time there.

Paul had many passions that would take him on some exciting adventures. At our family cottage Paul enjoyed water skiing and taking the boat out. There were many barbecues, birthday parties and events over the years. Wonderful memories that we will hold in our hearts forever.

One of Paul’s keenest passions was driving a fine sports car. He owned many of them including a Firebird, an Alfa Romeo, several BMW’s including the original 2002 and 2002 TII. Paul’s most treasured car however was his last one – a beautiful Porsche 911 Carrera. An avid F1 follower, Paul attended races in both Canada and the U.S.

In between all these cars, Paul also loved motorcycles, owning many over the years. He enjoyed riding with his group of friends, going on riding trips for the pure joy and freedom of being in control of a fine motorcycle and feeling the wind in his face.

As many of you who knew our brother well are aware, Paul suffered some pretty significant health setbacks over his life. Despite the odds, Paul bravely fought back and overcame these odds. He was able to recover and enjoy his life with many friends and 'family' at Helen Zurbrigg Home for a good many years.

We would like to extend our eternal gratitude to the amazing team at Helen Home who took such great care of Paul. You were Paul’s family, especially Jacquie who understood Paul so well. We cannot emphasize enough how wonderful and caring the staff were to Paul. We will be eternally grateful.

We would also like to thank the outstanding staff at Juravinski Hospital ICU. Special recognition goes to Dr. Suraj Gopinathbirla, Dr. Simon, the nurses especially Joanne, respiratory therapists, health care aides and PSW Ross for your compassion and care during Paul’s last days.

A private family celebration of Paul's life will be held for his family at Helen Home.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Thrive Group or charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
