Paul Iacoviello

January 4, 1959 — January 21, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul Iacoviello on Friday, January 21, 2022, at Bob Kemp Hospice in Hamilton, after a courageous battle with primary brain cancer. Paul was 63. He will be greatly missed by Corinne, his devoted wife of 29 years. He was the proud father of two wonderful children, son Julian and daughter Kiara. Paul was a beloved son to Michele and Dolores Iacoviello and will be dearly missed by his sister Antonietta. He will be fondly remembered by his father and mother-in-law, Edward and Frances Crichton, brother and sister in-law, Les and Shellan (Clark) Crichton and by his adoring nephews and nieces, Myles, Joseph, Sarah and Ella. Paul will be forever remembered by his extended family of cousins, aunts and uncles, incredible friends, neighbours, colleagues, students and photo club members. Paul was born in Bologna, Italy, son to Michele who was a National Military Police Officer under the Ministry of Defence and Dolores who worked as a seamstress. At age 3, Paul’s family began their journey to Canada, via Switzerland, where Paul’s father worked as a cabinet maker for OMEGA (Swiss Luxury Watches). The family then continued on to Canada where they settled in a quiet neighbourhood in the north end of Hamilton, Ontario. Paul graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education. Several years later, a second Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Paul then began a 34-year career as a Correctional Officer at the Hamilton Wentworth Detention Centre. In 1997, as part of a team of dedicated officers, Paul was instrumental in the design and implementation of one of the first adult male forensic units to assist in mental health in an Ontario Corrections Facility. For many years, Paul trained correctional staff in First Aid, CPR and Fire Control. Throughout his life, Paul had great intellectual curiosity and a passion for knowledge. He took his passions, research & artistic skill and shared it with his students while teaching photography at Mohawk College for over 20 years. He was one of the founders of the Haldimand Photography Club - a group of novice and experienced photographers who gather in fellowship to share information and improve their craft in a fun and supportive environment. He served for many years as the Club’s Event Coordinator and, in 2020, was elected Club President. Paul was a great lover of world travel, photography, theatre, reading, cars, motorcycles, kayaking, cycling, swimming and sci-fi. He had a natural gift for the arts, as seen in his splendid drawings, writings and photography. Paul was an accomplished fine art photographer which later led to his being sought out for commercial, wedding, architecture and location work. So much talent in one man, we only wish he had more time to show the world his abilities as an artist. Together, Paul and Corinne built a loving home in an amazing community where neighbours and close friends are part of the family. We have memories and experiences that will last a lifetime. The family sends immense gratitude and respect to the staff at Bob Kemp Hospice. The care, kindness, support and love Paul received during his stay will never be forgotten. They also thank Deb at The Cancer Assistance Program (CAP) for the vital equipment that helped Paul in each stage of his journey. Much gratitude to the LHIN for quickly coordinating a strong palliative care team to help Paul at home. Thank you to all the PSW’s who assisted in Paul’s personal care and to Nurse Marion for her guidance. Thank you to Bob for writing an amazing poem for the family and helping to navigate them through such challenging times. You gave strength, clarity and guidance during a difficult journey. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Paul’s name to the Bob Kemp Hospice or the Cancer Assistance Program. In light of current circumstances, cremation has already taken place and A Celebration of Life, to honour Paul will be held at a later date once COVID restrictions have lifted. Paul will be forever in our hearts.♥️
