Patricia J. Smith

July 1, 1945 — August 31, 2023

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Pat Smith, who

left us peacefully on August 31, 2023, aged 78.

Devoted Mom to son David (Cecillia), and daughter Julie, Pat will also be

missed by her beloved grandchildren Cole and Nathan, sister Joan (Alex),

nephew Steve (Cathy), and nieces Janice and Patricia (Scott), along with

their children.

Pat relished the simple pleasures of life, and found the greatest joy in

the company of her beloved pet cats, or in sharing laughs with family and

friends. Born in Hamilton, Ontario to Harry and Ivy Oliver, Pat grew up in

Westdale, and attended Westdale Secondary School, working part time serving

up shakes at the village soda fountain. Following a brief dabble in

nursing, Pat moved on to Mutual Life, before settling into a long-standing

career at the Hamilton and District Labour Council. Once retired, she

became an active member of St. Andrew’s United Church, where she embraced

several new friendships and endeavours across the church community.

The family wishes to thank Gloria and the wonderful staff at Extendicare

Hamilton, for the high quality of care and support that Pat received. We

also wish to express our deepest gratitude to our family friend Barb, whose

tireless love and support we will forever be indebted.

As per Pat’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life

will be held in her honour (date to be confirmed) at St. Andrew’s, where

loved ones can raise a glass, and reminisce over their favourite memories

with her. In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s name to The Heart and

Stroke Foundation, would be appreciated by the family.

Finally, some words of comfort from one of Pat’s most cherished hymns:

“In our end is our beginning;

In our time, infinity;

In our doubt there is believing;

In our life, eternity,

In our death, a resurrection;

At the last, a victory,

Unrevealed until its season,

Something God alone can see.”

- Hymn of Promise (1986), Natalie A. Sleeth
