Pamela Lynne O’Hoski, ART

October 14, 1949-January 14, 2024

Pamela Lynne (Bishop) O’Hoski was born in Kentville, Nova Scotia but as a young child moved to Hamilton, Ontario with her parents, where she lived the rest of her life. Athletic as a young woman, she excelled as a member of her high school basketball team. After graduation from Barton Secondary school, she was accepted into the Chedoke School of Medical Technology, graduating as a Registered Medical Technologist with specialization in blood banking. Pamela joined the Blood Bank department of Henderson (later Juravinski) General Hospital and enjoyed a 50-year career in Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS). Pamela went on to be awarded the Advanced Registered Technologist (ART) designation, an achievement of which she was justly proud. During her career Pamela trained and mentored many junior staff and medical students, was promoted to senior management positions within the HHS and was generally recognized as an expert in the blood banking field. Later in her career Pamela chose to return to technical blood banking work by joining the HHS Stem Cell Transplant Program, where she was vital to the development of that program and assisted in saving many lives.

Pamela loved her family, her friends and her work. She also had a love for the outdoors and wildlife, with a special place in her heart for her pets. She could always be counted on to respond to the needs of anyone around her with diligence, thoughtfulness and compassion.

Pamela died on January 14, 2024, at Macassa Lodge long term care home, where she was a resident. She will be dearly missed by her husband Jim, daughter Taryn and grandson Mason. She is also remembered with love by her brother Neil Bishop and sister Christine Bishop and sadly missed by her “card ladies”. Her family would like to give special thanks to the Macassa Lodge staff who have provided such kind care to Pamela over the past 16 months. In memory of Pamela, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada are welcomed in lieu of flowers.
