Olga Mary Spleit (nee DeCandia)

December 30, 1929-May 4, 2026

On a beautiful spring day, we said goodbye to our beloved mom and Oma in her 97 year after a long and brave struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was predeceased by her husbands, Karl and Pavlik, and her daughter, Hedy.

She is remembered as a loving mother and Oma to Oswin and Ilona, along with their children:
Michael, Jennifer, Kristina, and Rebecca; Ingrid and her children, Devon, Stefan, and Lauren; and Karl and Dorothy with their children, Christopher and Matthew. She was also a great-grandmother to nine children. Her dog, Lily, will miss her dearly.

Mom was ahead of her time-resilient, strong, and stubborn. She was educated as a mechanical draftsman, an accomplished chef, and could sew, knit, and crochet anything. She had a beautiful soprano voice and spoke five languages fluently, getting by in many others. She was an avid gardener with an exceptional green thumb. She did beautiful needlepoint work, which she freely shared.

Our home was always filled with good food and baked goods, and no one ever left without being fed and welcomed.

We extend our sincere thanks to Eden Duddy for all her help and compassion, and for her tireless advocacy on her behalf. We are also grateful to the many PSWs and staff members who provided care and dignity, allowing her to stay at home for as long as possible. Special thanks to Rutvik Gondaliya from Nurse Next Door.

We offer profound thanks to the staff at St. Peter's Palliative Care Unit, Dr. Shailee Siddphuria, Darcy McKellard, Matthew Kettings, and the many nurses like Shari, Jess and Beverly who provided wonderful around-the-clock care for our mom and comfort for us. Nurses truly are angels on earth.
