Norman Peter Woolcott passed away peacefully on October 17, 2024. Predeceased by his loving wife Ann (Kennedy) and dear sister Audrey (Stevenson). Brother to Patty (Dubois), Norm and his wife Pat, and John and his wife Tricia. Admired father of Lynne, Drew and wife Jayne, David and wife Tanya, Peter and wife Fiona, Leslie and her partner Gary, and Patricia and husband Neil. Beloved Papa to his grandchildren Sarah, Justine, Peter and Kennedy (Drew and Jayne); Caleb (Lynne); Sascha and Heidi (David and Tanya); and Lucy (Patricia and Neil). Nieces and nephews, great-grandchildren and friends will miss him his humour, love and stories.
Peter was a son, brother, husband, father, uncle, lawyer, farmer, realtor, tennis player, jazz lover, bridge competitor, grandfather, great-grandfather and more.
While he was raised in Hamilton, his fondest memories were of he and Ann raising a family in Binbrook and learning how to farm. He was a community organizer (though he wouldn't have used that term) and threw himself into projects such as establishing the first Catholic elementary school in Glanbrook, founding the Glanbrook Rangers and the Advocate Newspaper, volunteering with the Hamilton Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Scleroderma Society of Ontario, and political campaigns, as well as working with the Hamilton Separate School Board’s governing body.
Peter was a complex man. He had a sharp mind, a remarkable memory, a great sense of humour, and was a story teller with few peers. He could effortlessly organize a room or dinner table’s attention - whether adults or children - with tales, games, and laughter. He was competitive, but had an uncanny sense of playfulness. For him winning wasn’t everything; he admired those who participated in life and for how they participated. He was fiercely self-reliant and private, but put his family and children above himself. He tried in his own way to inspire those near him to dedicate themselves and succeed where ever their passions lay. He admired courage, talent, hard work, and success, but was without envy or jealousy. Always learning, debating, advising, storytelling, laughing, and inspiring, our dinners and the world itself will be dimmer without him. He will be deeply missed.
Thank you to Drs. M. A. Aljama and J. Solomon as well as to the staff teams at the Juravinski and St. Peter’s Hospitals for their professionalism, helpfulness and thoughtful care. Detail in respect of celebration of life to follow.
Memorial donations may be made to the Scleroderma Society of Ontario.
