In Loving Memory of Mona Therese Gibbons
August 9, 1930 – October 19, 2025
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Mona Therese Gibbons at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario, on Sunday, October 19, 2025, with loving family, in her 95th year.
Born in Edmundston, New Brunswick, Mona was the eldest of six children of the late Wilfrid and Evelyne Gauvin. Her life reflected quiet strength, kindness, and steadfast love. After graduating from high school in 1948,Mona attended Teacher’s College and received her license to teach in January 1951. For Mona, teaching was not simply a job – it was a calling inspired by her deep love for children.
Mona shared nearly 60 beautiful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Dr. Thomas Gregory Gibbons, who predeceased her in 2014.Together, they built a life rooted in devotion, family, and compassion.
She was the loving and dedicated mother of Michael (Christine) and Lynn(David), and the adoring grandmother of Jennifer (Andrew), Jonathan (Karly),and Justin, and her great grandson, Kingston.
Mona is now reunited with her beloved husband Greg, her parents, and her siblings Norma (late Maurice), Jeannette (Patrick), and Louis (Micheline). She is lovingly remembered by her sister Germaine (late Lomer) and brother Martin (late Patricia), along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her deeply.
Mona was a woman of grace, generosity, and quiet joy. She found delight in life’s simple pleasures: baking pies for loved ones, losing herself in a good book, or listening to her favourite classical music. She especially cherished the peaceful moments spent by her window, watching birds, deer, chipmunks, and bunnies with childlike wonder. Above all, Mona was devoted to her family. Her presence was a source of comfort, and her memory will forever be a blessing.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate staff and physicians at St. Peter’s Hospital for their exceptional palliative care.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Church in Dundas, Ontario, followed by interment.
