Millicent "Millie" Turgeon (née Whiting), a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Despite the sudden nature of her passing, Millie valiantly battled numerous health challenges to the very end. She leaves behind her children, Michele (Paul), Kenneth (Marcy), Terrence (Cindy), Randall (Liz), and Steven (Akiko), as well as her grandchildren, April, James (Cindy), Jason, Matthew, Jeffrey, Angelina, and Caden. She was married to Gordon Bell from 1959 until his passing in 1971, and later married James Turgeon from 1978 until his passing in 2015.
Born in Toronto, ON, to Arthur G. Whiting and Nellie Ward. Millie was the youngest sibling to Arthur, Stanley, Douglas, and Adelia “Dee”. All her siblings predeceased her. After graduating from high school, she attended business school and served in various secretarial capacities throughout her career.
Millie and her first husband, Gordon Bell, had three boys, Terrence, Randall, and Steven. After Gordon's passing in 1971, Millie married James Turgeon on June 23, 1978, welcoming Michele and Kenneth into her family. Millie and Jim's life journey took them from a farm property in Nobleton, Ontario, to the Montreal area for three years. They then moved back to the farm, later to Vernon, BC, for nine years, and then to Elliott Lake, ON, for another nine years. In 2006, they settled in Hamilton, ON, which became their last home together.
Millie had a passion for flowers, pigs, giraffes, and she cherished the piggie-themed gifts and cards she received from those who knew her well. She loved to cook, bake, garden, and shop. Her family was her greatest passion, and she was a devoted friend since childhood to Marilyn Gairns and Carol Passmore. Millie's love for baking was evident, especially her banana bread, which she always tried to have ready for her grandchildren's visits. Her family dinners and visits were filled with love and warmth. Despite battling numerous ailments in her last years, Millie now rests peacefully, having moved on to her great reward in heaven.
