With heavy hearts, we are devastated to announce the sudden passing of Matthew Robert Smythe, on Saturday, December 11th, 2021, at age 29. Matthew was born in Hamilton, Ontario on Sunday, October 25th, 1992, the day the Toronto Blue Jays won the World Series. Survived and terribly missed by his Mom, Kristine Connell, and his Dad, Shawn Smythe. Matt also leaves behind his much-loved older sister, Krystee Connell, who's heart has been broken. "Ankle Mac" will never be forgotten by his 4-year-old nephew, Dax Matthew Terrance Connell. Matthew had a large family and will be loved forever by the following people: Grandpa Larry Jacobs, Nana Carol-Lynn Smythe, and tons of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. Auntie Michele Smythe, Auntie Kari Smythe (Uncle Phil, Sam, and Scarlett), Uncle Michael Connell (Auntie Kelly, Mack, and Kaitlyn), Uncle Chris Smythe and Auntie Patti Smythe (Victoria, Keena, and Kori). Auntie Ann and Uncle George, Auntie Jane and Uncle Paul (Jesse), Uncle John (Alexandra and Alyona), Auntie Allie & family (Rob, Roan, Evan & Kieran), Uncle Paul & family (Chelsey, Liam & Connor), Auntie Katie & family (Wes, Brayden, Avaya & Cullen). Will be forever missed by his long time partner Alexandra Chrystian, and predeceased in 2019 by his best friend, Jonah Flowers. Also predeceased by Grandma Lynn Jacobs, Grandpa Terry Connell, Grandpa Bob Smythe, and Auntie Pauline. Thank you to all of our family and friends for rallying around us in our time of sorrow, and to all of Matthew's friends for all of the beautiful stories and photos that have been shared so far. Keep them coming, please. It is of great comfort. Matthew was a kind, gentle and humorous person, who could always make you laugh just by being him. He always strived to teach people to look at the other side of the story, think critically, stay true to yourself, and be your best. His special bond with and love of ALL animals, but especially cats, will always be remembered. Also, he always had the most incredible hugs to give! Cremation has taken place. A gathering/Celebration of Life will be held for Matt on Sunday, June 5th, 2022. Please message us for details if you would like to attend, we would love to see you! Donations in Matthew's name may be made to any private cat rescue or any type of addiction program and would be appreciated. We will have cat rescue donation jars set up on June 5th. "Cats are the best kind of people" - Matthew Smythe “When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.”
