Marie Lewandowski

January 9, 1927 – October 1, 2021 Wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed into eternal peace in the early morning hours of October 1st, 2021. Born in Düsseldorf, Germany her life was an adventure; worthy of a movie script. The ravages of war during her teenage years created the foundation for a strong, self- reliant young woman. When that dark time ended, she sought her future across the channel in England. At a popular dance hall, to the tones of big-band music, she met her one true love Bernard. Their love took them to new opportunities in Canada where together they raised four children John (Judy), Susan (Michael), Linda (Arnie), and Gerry (Lisa). Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were to follow with Jennifer, Geneva, Harrison, Mitch, Jaunna, Jett, and Anna forever holding a special place in their Oma’s heart. Maria was a poet, an amateur sketch artist, and talented knitter whose hats kept uncountable preemies very warm at local children’s hospitals. Her contributions were immeasurable. She gave her family precious memories of holidays, self-sacrifice, and dinner plates over-flowing with third helpings when all of her guests could barely manage their second. She will be dearly missed. How do you thank a woman who gave you nothing but her best? By giving her the title only the most deserved receive; you call her “Mom.” Sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff of Aberdeen Gardens for providing care and comfort to our mother during her stay with them. Internment at a future date, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Hamilton SPCA.
