Drieman, Louise Maria

October 21, 1928 – February 5, 2023

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend, Louise (Loes) Maria Drieman on Sunday, February 5th, at the age of 94 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her 5 children Tony Vischschraper, Bas Vischschraper (Jennifer Heckman), John Vischschraper (Valerie), Chris Vischschraper (Zuzana) and Monique Vischschraper; her grandchildren Danielle/Ashlee/Nicholas/Sam, Ethan, Molly, and Jakub/Veronika; and her great grandchildren Maxwell/Oliver, Draven/Madden, Lyla/River; brother Frans Drieman (Annemarie, predeceased) and sister Lia Drieman (Pietro, predeceased). She will also be deeply missed by numerous relatives and friends including Francien Shaw and Ellie Stendzis who were always there for her when she was living alone in Hamilton.

Louise (Loes) or “Oma” immigrated to Canada with her husband and two children in 1959. She adored her children and extended family and always was making sure of everyone’s well-being. Aside from her family, music was her greatest love. She sang in choirs for over 50 years and served on the Board of Directors of the Hamilton Community Choir, eventually as co-president, for several years. She walked her own path, not being concerned with the status quo, and broke through many barriers that women faced in her time. She was independent and changed careers midlife to become a successful registered massage therapist (RMT) before it became part of the mainstream in the healing arts. She retired her hands well into her 80s. Louise was an avid traveller along with her sister Lia and had seen much of the world. Louise will always be remembered with every rainbow, flower, singing bird, and musical note we encounter, as she loved all of these as much as she loved life itself. She lived life to the fullest and died as gracefully as she lived.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Komoka Country Terrace Long Term Care Home. Their love, care and compassion toward our mother touched our hearts to the core.

Memorial donations can be made to The Canadian Red Cross or donate specifically to the Earthquake Survivors of Syria and Türkiye.
