September 20, 1935 - February 11, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a very special man, Linus Press, in his 91st year. He was born in the small town of Hepberg (Bavaria), Germany.

Linus was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was married to the love of his life (his “Schatz”) for almost 70 years. Left to mourn his loss are his wife, Gertrude; his children Linus (Marion), Roger (Carolyn), and Karen; his grandchildren Kyle and Kevin, Robin and Eric, and Sabrina, Johnny, Jordie, and Mikey along with 8 great-grandchildren and other extended family in Canada and Germany.

After immigrating to Canada, he trained to be a Draftsman and later became a Manager of Quality Assurance for Slater Steel. After that, he was a high-apparatus Electrical Inspector for BC Hydro, and for a short time Ontario Hydro. Before he retired, he was self-employed as an Electrical Inspector and Consultant on contract for BC Hydro again.

In the last several years of his life, Linus struggled with dementia and was living at Wentworth Lodge, a long-term care home in Dundas. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful and dedicated sta in Oak Lane who caringly attended to his needs.

Linus was a very gifted man with many talents. He was athletic in his youth playing soccer and enjoyed watching his favorite team, Bayern Munich. He also enjoyed playing Eisstock (a German version of curling) and playing a good game of chess. He was well-read and always enjoyed a stimulating conversation about world events, history or politics. He was a great handyman and could fix almost anything around the house and cottage. He was also very artistic and made intricate wood-scrolling pieces in his retirement years. But most of all, he was a talented musician.

Music played a huge part of Linus’ life. He studied the violin in his youth in Germany, played the piano, and enjoyed singing. He sang in several choirs in the early years and eventually became the conductor of the Hamilton Germania Club Choirs for over 50 years. His loyalty and dedication to the choir was second to none, a remarkable achievement. He enjoyed classical music from the great composers by watching and listening to symphonies, concerts, operas both as live performances and recordings. His favorite composer was Beethoven, although Mozart was a very close second.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Donations in Linus’ memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Hamilton. Online condolences may be made at https://www.affordableburialandcremation.ca/
