It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Leslie Brady on October 1, 2026 at Willowgrove Long-Term Care in Hamilton, in his 83rd year.
Les was predeceased by his devoted wife of 53 years, Eleanor (Vermaercke). Loving father of Shawn Brady and Michelle Hayes (Scott). Beloved and proud Papa to his grandson, Ethan. Les is survived by his siblings Lucy Freiburger (John), Jim Brady (Shelly), Larry Brady (Betty), Garry Brady (Gloria), Linda Hill (Doug), Terry Brady (Barb), Brad Brady (Ann), and his brother-in-law, Andy Vandenbussche (late Irma). He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, John and Irene, and his brother John (late Marilyn).
Les was one of the kindest, gentlest, most loving of men. He was everything idealized in television sitcoms: patient, loving, supportive, and firm (when he needed to be). He was a friend who could be counted on, a neighbour who would lend a hand, a caring son and son-in-law, a husband who never forgot an anniversary or special occasion, and a brother who cherished his family. He was driven by integrity and trustworthiness.
Les was a proud professional Parts Manager for several local Ford dealerships, working for 43 years. He loved his career and was known for his work ethic, kind disposition and wonderful sense of humour.
Les was the best father. He coached hockey and soccer, taught his kids to ride bikes by running behind on a dirt road and drove his kids everywhere. He supported all of his children’s endeavours, even when he disagreed with a choice. He showed up, always.
Les took the most pride in his role as “Papa”. After his grandson was born, Les retired so he could devote himself fully to his new role. He pulled Ethan to the park in a little wagon, whatever the weather, and pushed him on the swing for hours. Even after hours, Papa and Ethan could be found giggling away and savouring every moment. There were wheelbarrow rides in the backyard with squeals of delight, sleepovers, countless outings with grandma to the duck park, lunches out, trips to the mall and endless spoiling. Les' face lit up with pride at every one of his grandchild’s accomplishments, big or small, and he never needed to be asked to show a picture (or several) from his wallet.
Les was an avid Leafs fan, walker, golfer and bowler, and he enjoyed the company of many friends in Delhi. He volunteered his time selflessly with his church, the cemetery board and other causes close to his heart. He was also a true animal lover. Over the years, he patiently supported bringing home countless strays in need of a safe place - kittens, dogs and birds. He never questioned the need to help and his compassion for animals was simply another reflection of the kind and gentle man he was. He had the best laugh and a warmth about him that made people feel welcome, a sense of humour that brought laughter wherever he went, and a goodness that was simply part of who he was.
Les was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at 76, and from then on life became increasingly difficult. The family wishes to thank the staff of Willowgrove LTC for their wonderful care during the last 5 years of his life.
There are not enough minutes, hours, days, weeks or years to describe his significance in all our lives. He was the best of us. We find peace in knowing he has gone Home. He has shed the cloak of human frailty and is free from illness, now with his Lord and Saviour. He will be missed forever but will never fade from our lives. Papa, we will miss your generous heart and kind smile, your laugh and your ridiculous jokes. You were strong until the end, and you deserve to rest in eternal peace. Kiss and hug Mom for us. We will love you forever.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Entombment to follow at the Delhi Cemetery.
