Lawrence Joseph Deighton

May 30, 1939 — January 5, 2025

People person, devoted sports dad, lover of family dinners, and all-around handy guy.

Lawrence (Larry) Joseph Deighton, aged 85, of Oakville passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 5th, 2025, at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.

Larry was born on May 30, 1939 (or possibly May 31st – but he was so great, we didn’t mind celebrating him twice) in Sudbury, Ontario. As a child, he enjoyed team sports, spending time with friends, and he excelled at connecting with people. He showcased his jovial personality throughout his long career in sales, and was loyal to his company for 40 years. As a young adult, he spent five years serving his country as a signalman in the Royal Canadian Navy.

After moving to Toronto, he met his wife, Julia (June) Lofeodo. He and June had four children: three sons and one daughter. He taught them to work hard, value family time, and to just be thankful. A testament to their love and happy marriage, after 65 years together, he called June his “lovely bride” until his final days.

He loved working with his hands, which extended from woodworking to odd jobs to technology (he was considered more tech savvy than his kids). It brought him joy to get involved in his children’s sports, and he spent countless hours coaching hockey and baseball. As a volunteer at West Lincoln Memorial hospital, as a Brother of the Knights of Columbus, and as an active member of St. Joseph’s parish in Grimsby, Larry gave back to his community in many meaningful ways. He led a busy life, but always had the time to lend anyone a helping hand.

Beloved husband, cherished father and grandfather, and loyal friend and neighbour. He had a contagious laugh and a warm demeanor that could put anyone at ease. He was generous without expecting anything in return.

He is survived by his wife June, his four children, and 11 grandchildren: Wayne (Lorna) - Joel, Sean, Ben; Angela (Dave) - Jordan, Julia (Joey), Amy; Larry (Ann) - Matthew (Abbie), Jack, Liam; and Mark (Jen) - Quinn and Avery. To honour his wishes, there will be no funeral service. We invite you to please celebrate Larry’s memory in your own way. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the Canadian Lung Association.

“Your presence will be missed, your memory we will treasure, remembering you always, forgetting you never.”
