John Brian Henley

October 17, 1947 — August 14, 2023

After a life richly lived, John Brian Henley, 75, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2023 following a battle with interstitial lung disease. Brian is survived by his wife of 51 years Bronwen, his children Didymus and Phaedra, and sister Barbara (Glen). He will be deeply missed by friends, family in London and Port Hope, beloved cat Molly and neighbours, including the Diggins. His online following was remarkable, a source of unwavering solace and pride.

Brian was a devoted Hamiltonian, captivated by its nature, politics, and, above all, its storied history. An adept storyteller, archivist, and author, he wrote several books, a regular Spectator column and hosted a spot on CHCH News all focusing on Hamilton history. He served with pride the Hamilton Public Library as the Head of Special Collections. Brian resolutely overcame life's challenges finding comfort and strength within his religious community. Renowned for his encyclopedic knowledge and love of all things musical, Brian was often seen under a pair of headphones.

Our heartfelt appreciation goes to St. Joseph's Hospital and Emmanuel House for the care he received. A service will be held on Saturday September 16th at St. John the Evangelist Church (320 Charlton Ave W) at 2PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Hamilton Public Library (Local History Collections). In our hearts, Brian's memory shall forever find its home, inspiring us to embrace history, faith, and the harmonious melodies of life.
