John James Bell passed away on August 13, 2025, in Hamilton, Ontario, at the age of 59. Born on July 10, 1966, in the same city he called home throughout his life, John left a lasting mark on his community through his work, generosity, and unwavering spirit. From a young age, John was known for his fearless nature and tireless work ethic. Over the years, he worked at many different constructing and roofing companies and made countless friends along the way. His entrepreneurial drive led him to establish his own subcontracting business, Bell Industries. Through this venture, he employed many people—many of whom remained lifelong friends—and contributed to projects that can still be seen throughout Hamilton and its surrounding areas. Among his many collaborations, he worked most closely with R & R. John’s industriousness extended beyond construction. He had a knack for side hustles and was especially fond of second-hand trading. He collected an assortment of items and then sold those unique finds at places like the flea market. Outside of work, John embraced life with energy and humor. He loved fishing and camping trips, often traveling with his family to destinations ranging from Clifton Hill to Nova Scotia and Chicago. Whether it was teasing his little cat buddy Meathead or an afternoon spent smoking weed with his friends, John found joy in simple pleasures. He shared much time with his wife Candy—playing Pokémon Go together or heading out to bingo nights and penny sales. John was deeply committed to those around him. A devoted family man, he built the house that sheltered his loved ones with his own hands—a symbol of the strength and care he poured into everything he did. He supported not only his immediate family but also extended kindness to others in need. On multiple occasions, he helped move food for the less fortunate around Hamilton and opened his home to friends and family going through difficult times. He was known for being strong-headed and never shied away from speaking his mind. Yet beneath that bold exterior was a giving heart that touched many lives. John is survived by his mother Thelma Guitar; sisters Marlene Bailey and Rose Connors; wife Candy Bell; children Shannon Bell, Eric Bell, Matthew Bell, Emily Bell; stepchildren Alex Connors-Mallory and Katie Connors-Mallory; and 6 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father Nelson Bell and older brother Glenn Bell. A Viewing will be held on August 20, 2025, from 02:00 PM to 04:00 PM at Marquis Gardens 1050 Rymal Rd E. We will also be holding a memorial service in a few weeks and will contact whoever possible about the details once they're decided.
