It is with sad hearts, and grateful spirits that we announce the passing of Hendrika Los into her heavenly home with her beloved Lord Jesus.

Hendrika passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday April 8, 2024.

Hendrika Gerrigje Los was born on July 2nd, 1926 in Lopik, Netherlands to Gerrit Teunis De Gier and Hendrika Jannigje De With. At age 15 she met Jacobus Martinus Los, the love of her life whom she later married. In February 1950 they immigrated to Canada together. There they built a beautiful life with their three children, Trudy, Henri and Tom.

Hendrika had many passions in her life but surpassing them all was her love for Christ. She enjoyed serving others through creative outlets, such as crocheting thousands of hats for needy children around the world.

Hendrika was a very independent lady. Thus, with the support of family members and friends she was able to remain in her home almost until the end. In November 2023 she finally moved to receive “Assisted Living” care in Grimsby’s Deer Park Villa and Suites. From there she was moved to St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton where she received palliative care during the month of March. We wish to honour and thank her many family members and friends who supported her in so many ways including meals, visits, phone calls and beyond. In addition to the physical support, you bolstered her spirits and her continued engagement in life. She knew she was not forgotten and all of you were treasured.

She will be deeply missed by her daughter Hendrika, son Tom (Marlene), son-in-law Jake (Jewell) and her many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death and now joyfully reunited with her husband, Jacobus and daughter, Trudy.

Cremation has taken place. According to her wishes, the remembrance for her will be a private family gathering. It will be held at her son’s home in the near future.

In her final days Hendrika could often be heard comforting and challenging those around her with the following lyrics:

I love Jesus, does he know?

Have I ever told him so?

He would love to hear me say

That I love him every day
