In Loving Memory of Helen Caldwell, nee Fraser
Helen Caldwell, a vibrant and spirited soul, passed away on November 15, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love,laughter, and cherished memories. Born on January 29, 1934, in Lanarkshire, Scotland, Helen's life journey was atapestry woven with the threads of family, resilience, and a touch of Scottish feistiness.
Survived by her lovinghusband of 68 years, George Caldwell, Helen leaves behind a family who adored her. Her son Kenneth Caldwell, along withhis wife Angela, was the proud parent of three children: Fraser Caldwell, who is married to Alexandra, and theirdaughter Tamara; Alison Caldwell, residing in BC; and Colin Caldwell with his partner Kate and their son Lincoln.
Daughter Sylvia Smith and her husband John brought further joy into Helen's life. Sylvia and John's two children,Bradley and Shannon, expanded the family circle. Shannon's marriage to David DiMarco added another layer of love andintroduced four beautiful children, Julian, Jaxon, Mia, and Grace, to Helen's extended family. Daughter Evelyn Russelland her husband John, along with their two children Trevor and Tricia, completed the loving tapestry of Helen'sdescendants.
Helen's early years were spent in the village of Law with her surrogate mother and guardian, Maggie,until she moved with George to the town of Wishaw. In 1968, the adventurous couple embraced a new chapter in Hamilton,Canada. Outgoing and feisty, Helen endeared herself to many, leaving fond memories in the hearts of all who had theprivilege of knowing her.
George and Helen spent their golden years as snowbirds in St. Petersburg, Florida,where they embraced the sun and created countless memories together. Helen, known affectionately as the "LittleScottish Lady," could often be found behind the counter of the family-owned "Treats" store at Limeridge Mall, where herwarmth and hospitality brightened the days of many.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at theBlackadar Continuing Care Centre for their compassionate care over the last year. Special thanks to the emergency roomstaff at Juravinski Hospital for their support during a challenging time. The family is forever grateful to Evelyn andJohn Russell for their many years of caregiving for both George and Helen.
As we bid farewell to the "LittleScottish Lady," let us remember her laughter, her love, and the indomitable spirit that touched the lives of all whoknew her. May she rest in eternal peace.
