Gunter worked with his father Walter at Kleinwort Wholesale Greenhouse until Walter died in 1965. He then joined the OPP working out of the Lindsay and Apsley Detachments. He is fondly remembered as one of the founding members of the Apsley OPP yearly snowmobile run and the annual cottage corn roast on Jack’s Lake. In 1974, they purchased Brown's Store, known as Kleinwort General Store Inc, Apsley, ON until 1989. In retirement, he started Kleinwort Landscaping until 2000, at which time they moved to Spaniard's Bay, NL until 2020. Gunter was an avid Sudoku player and a self-taught craftsman. He could create beautiful pieces of furniture and gifts for his grandchildren freehand. He was able to look at what he wanted to make and figure out a design to create and recreate pieces. Building and remodeling every home they lived in was a passion he passed onto his daughters. He was always doing projects, whether it be on their own home, or at Krista and Karen’s homes. There was always a “Gramps To-Do List” for when he arrived. He loved sharing this DYI approach with his grandchildren. Teaching them how to drywall, change electrical outlets, building birdhouses or firepit benches, he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and his time. Growing up in his father's greenhouses gave him an appreciation for gardening which is another passion he passed onto his daughters. There was rarely a day Gunter missed his morning walks with his father's Dutch hoe in one hand and a cup of tea in the other - the weeds in his gardens never had a chance. Cremation by Affordable Burial and Cremation in Hamilton has taken place due to COVID; arrangements for a later private family internnment at the Carrying Place Cemetery Annex, in Carrying Place, ON.
