Peacefully passed away at age 91 on Monday, November 24, 2025. Predeceased by Joseph, her husband of 51 years, in 2007. Lovingly remembered by daughter Dorothea Druiven (Lester), son Ian Dunbar (Joanne), sons Gordon Dunbar and Robert Dunbar, grandchildren, Perri Druiven (Ryan), Dianna Druiven, Russel Druiven (Junine), David Dunbar (Amanda), Mark Dunbar (Jenny), Christopher Druiven (Jennifer), and Frank Dunbar (Melanie). Also survived by her great-grandchildren, Leo, Avery, Violet, Ivy, Isobel, and Ilsa.
In 1959, Giovanna and Joe immigrated to Canada to raise their family. She worked as a cleaner for the City of Hamilton, the family owned and farmed a small orchard in Ancaster for 45 years. Giovanna loved gardening, cooking, traveling, family celebrations, and meeting new people. With her children in high school, she studied English to improve her reading and writing, so she could learn to drive. To make peace with the Canadianwinter, she took up crosscountry skiing. Italy was her birthplace, butCanada was her home.
The family would like to thank all the staff of St. Peter's Residence at Chedoke, who helped care for Mom in her last three years.
Mass will be held at Regina Mundi RC Church at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 27, followed by entombment at White Chapel Cemetery. A celebration of life will occur at a future date.
