With broken hearts we share that on June 1st, 2025, with her favourite music playing, her husband by her side and girls holding her hands, Gabby passed away at Juravinski Hospital.
Predeceased by her mother, Miesje, father Helmut and step-father Walter.
Gabby loved her family more than anything. She is dearly missed by her husband of 44 years, James, daughters Caitlan and Corrie, her favourite son in law, Daniel and her newest (and cutest) pride and joy, baby Rhys. She was the best Oma to Rhys and although their time together was cut short, there was no denying their incredible bond. He lit up everytime she entered the room and we will remind him of her love and their bond as he grows.
Born and raised in Hamilton, Gabby was an extremely proud Canadian and Hamiltonian... except for the roads, those are just embarrassing. She is known for her undeniable love for mushrooms. Collecting them since she was 15 years old, she grew into our little Shroomy and we know all her friends and family will think of her everytime they see a mushroom. With a spectacular green thumb and a beautiful garden herself, she loved to get her hands dirty helping friends learn about and expand their gardens. Many of us have clippings and splitings of her plants that will continue to grow.
She was a proud and dedicated friend of Bill W and had a deep love for the program and its members - especially her girl gang.
Gabby will be missed by her brother-in-laws, Robert (Christine), William (Lil), John (Dilys) along with her nieces and nephews; Dena, Toby, Robert (Sarah), Kevin, William (Zuzanna), Glen (Kelcey), Tiffany, Johnny (Haylee), Emily and her many great nieces and nephews. She loved her step-grandchildren, Destiny, Tyler, Dylan and Ryan. She had a deeply cherished relationship with her cousin Lynn, and nieces, Heather and Lyndsay (Andrew) and an unwavering, beautiful 45+ year friendship with Linda.
With her magnificently warm and kind heart, she always showed those she loved and cared for how special they were to her. She loved loud, hard and unapologetically. She believed in telling those you love how important they are, that life was too short for beige and when you can, take the scenic route.
Gabby, Gabriela, Mutti, Mom, Momma Mac, Oma... no one will ever fill your fabulous shoes. We miss you so much already and will for the rest of our lives. Thank you for showing us what true, unconditional love feels like.
