With heavy hearts, the family of Filipina Mijat announces her passing in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, on August 2, 2026, at the age of 84, after a brief illness with cancer. Born on February 3, 1942, in Dvor na Uni, Filipina’s journey through life was marked by resilience, warmth, and boundless love—a spirit that touched the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.

She is deeply mourned by her beloved daughter Ivana Markovic and her supportive son-in-law Milenko Markovic, whose lives have been immeasurably enriched by Filipina’s presence. In addition, she is fondly remembered by her step-daughter, Sanja Mijat, and by her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Bunjevac. The legacy of her kindness and wisdom will also live on through her grandchildren, Milena, Katarina, Aleksandar, Adriana, Milan, Marina Perisic (Goran), Nemanja Laus and Darija Laus, each of whom carries forward her spirit in their own unique ways. Her great-grandchildren; Antonio, Pavle, Gavrilo, Petkana and Milica are blessed with the loving stories and memories left in her wake, and Filipina’s affection will continue to bless generations to come.

Those who knew Filipina remember her as gentle yet strong, humble but fiercely devoted to those she loved. Her laughter, her nurturing presence, and her willingness to lend an understanding ear created a sense of home wherever she went. To her family, she was a guiding light.
