Peacefully with her loving family by her side, Erna Gertrude Spohr left us to be
with her Lord on February 10, 2025, in her 103rd year.
Most cherished mother of Karin Monse (Guenter) of Hamilton. Precious Oma
to Jennifer Murdock and Sharon Monse (Harry) of Hamilton, and Nik Spohr
(Nicola) of Toronto. Great-grandmother of Alex Murdock (Colleen), Natalie
Murdock, Christina Lancaster (Peter) and Dimitri Lavovsky (Michelle) all of
Hamilton. Oma Spohr was also blessed with four great-great grandchildren
Hailey, Isabella, Steven, and Serena. Honourary Oma to Sabine Herman
(Konrad) and great-Oma to Kai Thomford of Berlin, Germany.
Erna was predeceased by her husband Traugott Ernst Spohr (1995), sons
John Spohr (2021), Fred Spohr (2023) and great-granddaughter Valerie
Yvette Smith (2019) whom she often spoke of being reunited with.
Born on November 17,1922 in Danzig, Germany, she was the only daughter of
5 children to parents Herman and Ida Zinn. In 1960 she immigrated to Canada
to begin her new journey with husband, Ernst and children Karin, John and
Manfred, eventually settling into the Kitchener area. It was here she took
much pride in her volunteer work at St. Mary’s hospital and her passion for
swimming.
Erna will always be remembered for her strong Lutheran faith, her delicious
pot roast, fantastic storytelling and ensuring her grandchildren learned of their
German heritage. A strong woman with a zest for life, she will always be
remembered for her love of family.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful nurses and PSW's of
the Oak Grove Wing who took loving care of our Mama and Oma in her last
years. Special thank you also to Gertrude Pfeffer of Flamboro for her
compassion and loyal friendship, visits which Erna cherished.
Funeral service for Mrs Spohr will take place at the Chapel in St Joseph’s
Villa, 56 Governors Rd, Dundas on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 2pm.
Cremation has taken place. A private interment will be with immediate family.
Psalm 23:4 "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I
will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me".
