It is with broken hearts, that we announce the unexpected passing of our dear mother, Elizabeth (Bonnie) Spence (née Cahill) on May 5, 2024, at 78 years young.
We take great comfort that she is now reunited with our father George Spence, to whom she was married for almost 57 years, her parents, Betty and Bud Cahill, her brother Bill and other family and friends who have departed over the years.
She leaves behind her only son, Shane (Sarah), her grandchildren Colin, Robbie (Jeannie) and Abbie, her great grandchildren Cheryl, Juniper and Luna, her siblings, nieces, nephews, fairy god-children and friends, who to her, were also family. She was deeply caring and will always be remembered as a caregiver with a great sense of humour, and one of the biggest hearts.
Bonnie was born to Betty and Bud Cahill on April 15. 1946, in Hamilton, Ontario. She was the eldest of six siblings and she beamed with joy when recalling the memories that were made with her family and friends, in what is now known as the Cahill Castle, on Beach Boulevard, in Hamilton, Ontario.
In 1974, she welcomed her only child, her son Shane, and it was apparent to all who knew her, that he was by far, her greatest accomplishment. Although he was her only biological child, Bonnie was known as a "Second Mom" or "Fairy Godmother", to all of the kids in the Rosedale, area where she and George made a wonderful life, where they watched Shane grow into the outstanding man that she was so very proud of today.
Bonnie wore many hats over her lifetime, from working at Sears in her early days to becoming an exceptional caregiver, ensuring anyone under her care was treated with the compassion and love that she adamantly felt we all deserved.
Her heart grew significantly more, in 1998, when she was introduced to her grandson Colin, who quickly stole the title from his dad, of her "pride and Joy". Although Colin was her only biological grandchild, you would never know, as she loved his half siblings, Lindsay, Victoria and Shannon just as much and went on to love their children Aaron, Kiara and Faith.
In 2014, Bonnie further extended her heart and home to the love of Shane's life, Sarah, and her two children Robbie and Abbie. She always referred to their marriage as the happiest day of her life! She always let the world know how blessed she felt, that she got to love and hold her great grandchildren, Cheryl, Juniper and Luna.
The family will be forever grateful to the wonderful doctors and nurses at the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, in Dunneville, ON, for the compassion, kindness and comfort extended to us, and for the loving care and dignity that they provided to Bonnie, making her transition peaceful and beautiful.
Cremation has taken place. An interment with family will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory to either the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, would be appreciated.
