Elaine Constance MacKinnon (née McCarthy), passed away unexpectedly June 20th, 2023.
Mother to Christopher MacKinnon, Elyssa MacKinnon, and Colleen MacKinnon (Mark McInnes). Grandmother to Aidan MacKinnon, Rebecca MacKinnon, Frances McInnes, and Eugenie McInnes. Sister to Mary May (née McCarthy), & Joseph McCarthy. Aunt to Mariden May. Daughter to Margaret and Joseph McCarthy
Born in Jersey CIty, New Jersey, where she lived with her family until she was 25. On a whim she went to visit her cousin Christine in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She soon married, and her twins (Christopher and Elyssa) were born. They moved to Greenwood NS, then later moved to Burlington, Ontario, and soon after to Hamilton, ON, where her daughter (Colleen) was born and where she lived out the rest of her 43 years here on earth. She was 75 when she passed away.
Elaine loved a good story with a punchline, clever humour and music. The name Elaine means sparkling, and she definitely sparkled. She could light up the room with her bright smile and hearty laugh. She loved to laugh. A dark-haired beauty, she stood out in a crowd without being aware of it. What got her through dark, difficult days was her love for her children. She appreciated the uniqueness of each one and cheered them on in their successes and fought for them valiantly and gave encouragement when they had to face challenges in life. She loved her grandchildren and took delight in their company and thoroughly enjoyed overnight visits with them in Ontario and New Brunswick. She also loved being part of the extended family and always looked forward to visiting aunts, uncles and cousins in New Brunswick, Canada. Elaine loved to travel, and went to Ireland and Scotland when she was young. Later in life she enjoyed trips with her sister and brother-in-law to visit her brother Joe in California, as well as Las Vegas, Arizona and California.
A funeral service will take place Monday August 7, 10:30 AM at St Jane Frances de Chantal, Easton PA. Burial to follow in Gesthemane Cemetery.
