MAJOR ELAINE ELLEN BANFIELD (August 15, 1944 – August 31, 2023) was a
dedicated servant of God, having served as a Salvation Army officer for twenty-five years.
Before entering the Salvation Army Training College in Toronto in 1982, Elaine worked at
a long-term care facility as special events coordinator, as well as a secretary for The
Salvation Army’s divisional headquarters in Halifax. She then served with her husband
Harry in various Salvation Army appointments in Ontario and New Brunswick, retiring in
2009. Elaine was a loving wife and partner to Harry for 57 years and a devoted mother to
her two children, Heather and Scott. Predeceased by her parents, William and Pearl
Murphy, and her older brother, Bill, she also leaves to mourn four grandchildren along
with several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of D Wing at
Macassa Lodge, Hamilton, for their kind care for Elaine in recent years. Cremation has
taken place. A Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday, September 30, at
11:00 a.m. at The Salvation Army Meadowlands Corps, 187 Stone Church Rd, Ancaster.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Parkinson Canada (parkinson.ca) or a charity
of your choice.
