Doreen Eva de Wilde (nee Lowe)
April 18, 1945 - March 13, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Doreen de Wilde at Hamilton General Hospital.
Beloved wife of John for 58 years. Amazing mother to Terry (Sherri) and Rob (Carrie). Proud grandmother of Jesse Lahaise, Maria de Wilde, and Rebecca de Wilde Jackson (Eric).
Cherished sister of Bill (Eunice) Lowe and sister-in-law of Margie (Gwyn) Jackson and Jack (Becky) de Wilde. She will be dearly missed by her many nieces and nephews.
Doreen is predeceased by her parents Albert and Eva Lowe, sister Barb (Edgar) MacNeil, brother Albert (Donna) Lowe, and sister Joan McEachern.
Her love for family, friends, and animals was unwavering. Throughout her life, she surrounded herself with beloved pets—ducks, goats, cats, raccoons, and even Taffy, her blind pony. She had a compassionate heart and never turned away an animal in need. Those who knew her will always remember the deep bond she shared with her heart dogs—Buddy, Pal, and Scarlett.
Doreen will fondly be remembered for always having an open door and greeting all who came with a big smile, a large meal, and a drink or two. She so deeply loved her two "adopted" sons, Sean and Anthony. Many of her favorite memories involved being together with them and their families.
Doreen and John shared a life filled with adventure, creating countless memories along the way. They were inseparable—always laughing, going for scenic drives, and caring for their loved ones. Their marriage remains a beautiful example of love and devotion, a legacy that continues through their family.
Doreen, along with her boys, was a long-time resident of Fulton before moving to Lowbanks. After John’s retirement, they settled in Tory Hill, where they embraced their love for the outdoors—snowmobiling, quadding, boating, and fishing. Doreen also found great joy in camping at Sauble Beach and Port Elgin. Eventually, they returned home to Caistorville, where they could be closer to their family.
Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting Doreen was greeted with a big smile and open arms. She will be greatly missed by all.
Cremation has already taken place. We will be having a celebration of life for Doreen on April 27th, 2025. It will take place at the Smithville Legion from 1 PM - 4 PM. 172 St. Catharines St. Smithville, ON. L0R 2A0
