Donald Slater Freeman

May 9, 1952 — July 11, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Don Freeman from Hamilton, Ontario. We will all miss his exceptional sense of humour that kept us smiling and laughing.

Don was born in Hamilton, Ontario and attended Westdale High School, HCI, and then Queen’s University in Kingston. He graduated from Queen’s with a BSc in Electrical Engineering in 1978.

Don was recruited right out of Queen’s and began his working career on oil platforms in the South China Sea where he was a Project Manager for global well service companies such as Schlumberger.

His natural engineering skills led to enhancements in the well-logging technologies and methods, which helped refine the logging results. Over time, Don gained a reputation as a problem solver and he was often called upon to solve more challenging well logging projects.

In his later years, Don liked to spend time at the family Cottage in Muskoka, and he was always available to lend a hand for everything from caring for aging relatives to home renovation and building projects. Don genuinely liked to help people and he was always up for a new challenge.

Don is predeceased by his parents Art and Margaret Freeman. He is survived by his brothers Jim and Peter, six nephews, one niece and their families together with extended family in Hamilton, Oakville, Burlington, Dubai, and San Francisco.
