Daniel (Charlie) Macqueen

April 3, 1939 — October 13, 2020

With heavy hearts, we the family, announce the passing of Charlie on October 13, 2020, after a brief battle with cancer. Daniel ‘Charlie’ MacQueen was born on April 3, 1939 in Glace Bay Nova Scotia to parents Sonny and Lexi MacQueen. Left to mourn his passing are Charlie’s wife Pat, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; Danny (Wendy, Connor, Callum, Alexis), Steven, Blair (Shelley, Blaine, Jade, Madison, Owen, Chad, Miller, Cooper, Zoe). Charlie was especially close to his sister Tena (Jimmy). Charlie is survived by his brothers Guy, Cecil (Starla), Keith (Gail). Predeceased by Allister (Anne) and Blaine. He will also be missed by many cousins, nieces and nephews from ‘down home’, here in Ontario and the US. He was a coal miner in Cape Breton until 1968 when he left to start a new life and join family in Hamilton, taking on a new job at Firestone where he worked for many years. Charlie was a tremendous baseball player who recounted many times winning the Nova Scotia Senior B Fastball Championship in 1964 with the Parkside Athletic Club. He continued playing competitively well into his 50’s in the Industrial Fastball league here in Hamilton. Charlie will forever be remembered for his quick wit and great sense of humour. He cherished his trips down home to visit friends and family, spending time out in Mira and his favourite place on earth…Cecil’s garage (Go Leafs Go!). He enjoyed his family, ball games in the summer, hockey in the winter, and, in recent years morning coffee with his buddies at Eastgate mall. Cremation has taken place and due to Covid 19 restrictions, a celebration of life for family and friends will be held at a later date. Also a memorial celebration will be held when we return ‘Gumboot’ back home to his beloved Cape Breton next summer…Farewell, we raise a glass of Molson Ex to you!
