In Celebration of

Brian Herbert Ecker

March 1, 1942 – January 12, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Brian Herbert Ecker, who passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, at the Hamilton General Hospital, at the age of 83 surrounded by family.

Brian was born on March 1, 1942, in Hamilton, Ontario, a city he proudly called home his entire life. A hardworking and dedicated man, Brian spent many decades at Stelco Steel, where he worked as a foreman until his retirement in 1997. His strong work ethic, leadership, and reliability defined not only his career, but the way he lived his life.

Brian was a devoted husband to his beloved wife Mary, with whom he shared countless memories — especially long drives together, enjoying each other’s company and the simple pleasure of being side by side. He was a proud and loving father to his sons Rick (Heather), Rob (Shelley), and Steve (Kerry), and an adoring grandfather to Julia, Cole, Tyler, Hannah, Jake, and Nathan. Family meant everything to Brian, and time spent together was what he cherished most.

He will be fondly remembered for his love of fishing with his buddies, his many happy years at his trailer at Summer House Park, and for always enjoying trips to the hockey rink to watch his sons and grandsons play hockey, as well as heading to the track to watch them race — passions that brought him immense pride and joy. Brian also deeply valued his friendships and the moments spent laughing, talking, and simply being together.

Brian will be missed dearly by his sister Marion, his nephew Gord (Tammy), his niece Brenda, and his great-nephew Quinton. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters-in-law Hennie (Paul) and Margaret (Doug) and his brother-in-law Andy (Kim), and all their families. He was predeceased by his brother Carl and his brother-in-law George.

The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to the staff at Regina Gardens where Brian had resided forthe past 4 months and the staff of the ICU at Hamilton General Hospital for the compassionate and exceptional care they provided to Brian in his final days.

Cremation has taken place. If desired, as an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Brian will be remembered as a kind, steady presence — a devoted family man whose legacy lives on in the love he sharedand the memories held close by all who knew him.
