Listen to Obituary

Surrounded by the love of her family, Betty peacefully drew her last breath on November 19, 2025, in her 87th year.

She met her final moments with the same courage and gentle grace that had defined her remarkable life. Just six months after losing Norm, her husband, and soulmate of more than fifty years, she quietly slipped away choosing MAID, as her husband did, finally, to be together forever.

Born in Béarn, Québec, Betty was the third child of Armand and Gabrielle Audet. She is survived by her beloved sisters, Idelle (Bill), Carmel (Gaston predeceased), and Lise (Jean-Yves); her brother, Michel (Christiane); and the cherished memories of her late brother, Gilles and his wife, Lucille. Fondly remembered by countless nieces and nephews. Betty was the devoted mother of Daniel Ayotte (Darlene) and the late Piere Pouliot (Thalia), and the proud stepmother to Norman Dezainde Jr. (Christine), Suzanne, Linda (Ed), Cathy, and Robert predeceased. Her greatest joy and proudest legacy live on in her 13 grandchildren, 26 great- grandchildren, and 3 great- great-grandchildren each one a bright thread in the vast, beautiful tapestry of love she wove across four generations.

Betty was a smart, witty woman with boundless curiosity. If Betty and Norm weren't out dining and dancing, they were working on home projects side by side. Every detail of their home was hand-sewn, home-cooked from scratch, or refinished with love. Outside the home, Betty worked preparing Income Tax forms and later worked as a medical administrative assistant. She traveled extensively with her family across Canada, Europe, Mexico, and Costa Rica. She enjoyed navigating road trips with her husband to Florida for years, savoring the sun and ocean walks. Growing up in northern Quebec, she learned from her parents to live simply and off the land preparing snares, ice fishing, picking berries, and making dozens of blueberry pies and jam. In retirement, Betty and Norm took over Le Vacancier Chalets in Belleterre, Québec, where family, hunters, and fisherman gathered to tell stories of their adventures. Together they shared a full life of fishing on countless lakes and enjoying their winters cross-country skiing. Betty's quite strength and gentleness lives on in every slipper knitted, blanket crocheted, and recipe passed down. The story telling in laughter will continue forever at every future gathering of the family she held so dear.

We are deeply grateful to the nurses in the Hemodialysis unit at St. Joseph's Hospital on Charleton Ave., as well as the nurses and PSWs of Nephrology, 7th floor tower. After 11 years Betty felt loved and knew everyone's name.

Per Betty's wishes, cremation has taken place, with no formal service to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
