Arena Lake Blake

February 11, 1930 — November 2, 2024

Blake, Arena Lake (nee McMillan) “Rena”

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful Mom Arena, Saturday November 2, 2024, West Lincoln Memorial hospital, age 94. Arena was born in Hamilton, February 11,1930 to Samuel and Catharine McMillan (formerly of Govan Glasgow, Scotland). She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Richard (“Dick”) July 8, 2016. Arena leaves behind her heartbroken children, Cathy (Jeff) Filliter, John Blake (Kathy, deceased 2017), Sandra (Ken) Babin. Adored Nana of Erica (Brian) Fitzgerald, Michael Buch, James Blake (Jessica), Rachael (Shane) Richard, Blake Babin, Grace Babin (Keagan Halliwell), Nolan Babin, Michael (Lynn) Filliter, Kevin (Perle) Filliter. Cherished Great-Nana of Evan and Kaiden Fitzgerald, Sarah and Emma Filliter, Sophie and Logan Blake. Survived by Brother Richard (Helen) McMillan, sister Pearl (Tony deceased) Dirito. Predeceased by sisters Kay (Bernard) Barlow, Annie (Tom) Bebelman, brothers Archie (Marion) McMillan, Sammy (Audrey) McMillan, Tom (Rose) McMillan, Jimmy (Bea) McMillan, Rena will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Rena was a kind and giving woman, who always put her family first. The quintessential Mama bear, who wasn’t afraid of anyone when it came to defending her children. She excelled at everything she did, sewing, bowling, stained glass, and baking. Rena was the Queen of Butter tarts (Just ask Uncle Ricky). The Blake house was always full of friends and relatives, where Rena and Dick loved to entertain. There was rarely a Sunday without BBQ’s, drinks and swimming. Rena will be painfully missed by her family, and life will never be the same without her.

Special thanks to Shalom Manor, Grimsby for the wonderful care our Mom received, she was truly blessed. A celebration of Life will be held at Sacred Heart Parish center, 24 Poplar avenue, Hamilton, Saturday December 28th from 1-4 pm. Cremation has taken place at Affordable Burial and Cremation. Please consider making a donation In Arena’s name to “Pantry four paws” pantryfourpaws.ca This rescue is close to my heart.
