Anne Louise
Young
April 1, 1945 – May 9, 2026
St. Michael’s Anglican Church
Starts at 1:00 pm (Eastern time)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Nana, sister, and friend, Anne Louise Young (née Packer), who passed away peacefully at Hamilton General Hospital on May 9, 2026, in her 82nd year.
Born in Calgary, Alberta, on April 1, 1945, to Robert Wilfred Packer and Maydie Packer, Anne later made her home in Hamilton, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, friendship, and service to others.
Anne dedicated her professional life to caring for others, first as a psychiatric nurse and later as a recreation therapist, spending her career supporting those living with mental illness.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Reid Young (2003), and her brother, Murray Packer (2016). She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Mark Young (Crystal Lockyer) and Maydie Kemp (Michael Kemp). Proud and devoted Nana to Cadence, Keira, Avery, and Savannah, Anne’s love and guidance will be cherished always.
Born into a family of six children, Anne maintained close ties with her siblings throughout her life and treasured the many memories they shared together.
Anne’s commitment to serving others extended far beyond her career. Through her church community, she helped organize soup lunches, supported the Community Fridge, drove friends and fellow parishioners to church, and quietly walked alongside those who were struggling. She had a remarkable ability to see people who often felt overlooked, offering encouragement, friendship, and opportunities that helped them move forward in life.
A woman of strong convictions and fierce independence, Anne loved routine and community. She rarely missed Thursday night Euchre at church, enjoyed weekly walks at Lime Ridge Mall with her close circle of friends, and was a familiar and beloved presence at the Christmas pageant, often leading the music with her guitar and joyful spirit.
Anne was especially proud to receive the Order of Niagara in recognition of her service to the church and community. She was also deeply proud to be Canadian.
More than anything, Anne will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, faith, and quiet service to others. Through countless acts of compassion, both seen and unseen, she made life better for many people and leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, 1188 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton, on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honour Anne’s memory are invited to make a donation to the Community Fridge at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, a cause that was close to her heart.
