Our guiding light has been extinguished. She was always the beacon that led us home to warmth, love and safety. Ann Louise Nutbeem (nee Bett) passed away at the age of 86, on 2 February 2022, quietly and peacefully, and on her own terms – at home with her children by her side. She is survived by her children: Ian (Laurie) of Ottawa, ON; Lorna of Hamilton, ON; Glenda of Hamilton, ON; and Alan (Lisa) of Harper Woods, Michigan. Also survived by her 8 adored grandchildren: Sarah, Shannon, Andrew, David, Braeden, Kyra, Alex, and Kate, 8 great-grandchildren and several granddogs. She will be lovingly remembered by her cousin Catherine of Scotland and niece, Judy of Pennsylvania. Over the years she became a second mother to many of her children’s friends. Lovingly remembered by family, friends and colleagues in Scotland, Ohio, Michigan and, Pennsylvania. Mum was predeceased by her parents David and Ann, beloved husband John and brother Murray of Canton, Ohio. Mum was born in Kuantan, Malaysia on 15 September 1935. She graduated as a Nurse from The Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Scotland in 1957, and completed a midwifery program in London, England before emigrating to Canada in 1959 with her lifelong friend, Pam (Orin) of Ottawa, ON. Mum was a strong independent woman with a wicked and irreverent sense of humour. A loyal and thoughtful friend, and a caring, compassionate, and loving confidante. A tremendous cheerleader regardless of how ridiculous or farfetched our dreams may have been. She held our hands as children but we will hold her in our hearts forever. In accordance with Mum’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
